The sparrows blow off the tree like leaves
The currawong takes its sixteenth gulp from the bird bath
One keen yellow eye locked on me
As I peer through the living room window
The blue morning hue welcomes the world
My cats brush my leg as they purr, telling me hello
The misty morning fog rolls through the trees
I’d say the world is quiet out here
But that would be a lie
It is loud, bombastic with the sound of life
The sparrows chitter and chat, telling the world ‘Good morning’
The boisterous caws of cockatoos slash the air calling ‘We are alive today! What a glory’
At night the welcome swallows spill out of the gap in the roof like a clown car
Now the wind rustles the trees
It flows through this room
It’s cold around here
I love it
I’ve yet to face the winter
Summer’s been a ball
Only a week of learning
Hundreds more to come
The sun moves its yellow fingers through the shutters
Waving at me to wake up and see the world
The king parrots make their soothing whistle
Another call to action to face the day
I creep outside
My feet cool and wet on the dewy morning grass
A reminder of life
Feel it all
Soak it in
